Winter Light Photography

Winter Light Photography

Saturday 24 February
St George's Rd. - 11am - 3 Hours
Caleb Williams
Nature has something to offer in every season. In the winter its the stark poetry of trees, the soft light, and the atmospheric shapes of clouds. Winter allows us to compose our images thoughtfully. Shadows and glimmers, the mulch of fallen leaves, the texture of a bare branch: all these things can become strong compositions. This workshop will provide deeper understanding of aperture, iso and shutter speed as we experiment with different styles of shooting. We will create a landscape 'story' - composed from still-life and large ensemble elements. Come and enjoy a photography walk in crisp winter air and experience this magical season in the park.

 Colour, Texture, Light Class

Colour, Texture, Light Class

Saturday 13 April
Truro - 11am - 3 Hours
Caleb Williams
This session will encourage you to get up close and personal with nature. Workshop participants will be shown how to frame their images to maximise detail, pattern and colour. Our setting will be in a park, which is bursting with colourful floral subjects at this time of year. We will learn about being 'intentional' in our photography - looking deeply - as opposed to just snapping. New and intermediate photographers will gain knowledge of how aperture and focal length can be used in combination to create well-composed, vivid shots of nature. Making foreground elements stand out (while turning the background into soft, dreamy blur) will also be explained. If your creative self-expression embraces petals, buds, and blooms this session will be very much for you. Indulge your inner "horticulturist", and spend some time getting to know the manual controls of your camera better in blossoming nature !

Outdoors Portrait Photography

Outdoors Portrait Photography

Sunday 01 September
Truro - 10am - 3 Hours
Caleb Williams
This workshop will equip you with the skills & confidence to undertake portrait photography outdoors. You will learn best times of day to take natural light portraits, which lenses and camera settings to use & how to pose subjects in a flattering way in order to avoid glare and harsh shadows. You will learn about neutral and textured backgrounds, and techniques involving "wide apertures". Wide aperture portrait photography is a style many professional photographers use to create soft, dreamy backgrounds or "bokeh" effects while the main subject stays sharply in focus. A central attractive location will be used for the workshop. The location offers a mix of openness & shelter: it will allow us to incorporate sun, shade, and architectural elements into portraits. This will be a fun creative class, in a great setting.

Really enjoyed it. Weather was a bit hit & miss but even that didn?t spoil the day. Insightful tuition from Caleb and at a pace that everyone seemed comfortable with.

Title or Location: Fistral Beach. Newquay
This was taken in May 2022. During lockdown me and my partner did a good job of walking most of the southwest coast path. Once out of lockdown we would just sit at some of our favourite spots in Cornwall capturing the sunset, taking in the scenery and sounds and reflecting on everything we were grateful for in our lives. This photo brings me so much joy.

I am a very beginner when it comes to taking pictures. I currently only use my iPhone. To see the cloud formation settled in the valley was so magical? it was an almost like looking at a river flowing through the mountains I had to go up 2304m to capture this.

I wanted to try and capture some big swell action so went to Mother Iveys Bay. It was quite an impressive sight and with my long lens on I captured this image. Also captured about another 453 but none encapsulated the storm as much as this one.

Title or Location: American Kestrel at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy
First off, I have to say that I am not a "Birder". But I love challenging my photographic skills and abilities. The American Kestrel is not a big bird, and it is fast. So even when you know its takeoff is imminent, it is still hard to get a nice clear photo of the bird. This particular image was shot with a Canon R6 camera, with the RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens at 1/5000 sec, f/7.1 and ISO 4000. I used the animal eye-tracking feature of this mirrorless full frame camera, and was very plea

I had shot the sunrise at Horseshoe Bend the same morning and was hoping for a blazing sunset at this location after talking to the other photographers present at sunrise. Even with some clouds, we were not so fortunate and when the sunlight was casting on the water I switched to black and white mentality and was able to capture this photo. You can just see the setting sun in the upper right corner for the photo.

Title or Location: Nene Valley Railway - Wansford
I was on a leisurely family walk going towards Nene Valley Railway in Wansford when serendipity struck, and I found myself in the perfect spot to capture a captivating moment. The sight of a steam train preparing to depart from the station sparked a rush of excitement and nostalgia. The timeless allure of steam trains and the bustling atmosphere of the railway added a touch of history and charm to my photography experience.

It was a cloudy day and my cat was up in the tree. he had always had very deep blue, but with all the defused light from the clouds and the contrast from the tree bark, It sent me running for my camera.I shot it on a Nikon D5600, with a 70 - 200mm lens, on January 25, 2024.I shot it raw while in manual mode, the aperture was 4.1, the iso 100, and the shutter speed was 1 over 700.

This one took a bit of planning to catch the Milky Way in the place I wanted, the Weather, Moon, and Milky Way core all had to be right and as you might guess it took a few seasons for it to come together, every time it was a walk in the dark over the sand dunes from Pennard to get to the right spot on the cliff edge, I'm a little picky when it comes to star trails and although there are certain formulas for shutter speed to "visibly" limit star trails I'd rather have none, so I dragged my Star
